Response to Intervention - or as we like to call it Response to Instruction is a way to track and act to each students individual needs. At Saint Kateri we are committed to reaching all students and help them grown as learners.
One of my roles is to ensure that our ELA program is meeting the needs of all learners in our building. We are able to provide support for students who are struggling with reading and writing, as well as those who benefit from extending the curriculum.
Our programming starts first in the classroom where teachers provide guided reading and writing in a Reading/Writing Workshop Model. This ensures that each child is receiving reading instruction at their instructional level and reading books that are just right for them.
If we find that a student is not making gains, based on our quarterly progress monitoring, we will provide RtI services in the area in which they are struggling. These services often last just 6-8 weeks for some children. For other children, they move in to our AIS, Acadmic Intervention Services, program which is typically more long term academic support.
